A look back at the HOIC Tournament and a look forward to the IHSA Regional Tournament
Volleyball season is quickly ending, the week of October 16 through October 21 the Heyworth Volleyball team played in the HOIC tournament. They went into the tournament being the 7th seed out of 13 teams. On Tuesday, October 17th the Hornets played a solid game against Fisher, winning in two sets. They then went on to play El Paso that same night and had a very close battle, but ultimately lost in two sets.
They then played on Thursday against Dee-Mack and played hard, but lost in 3 close sets. The winner of that game would have played on Saturday for the fifth-place game. The winner of the HOIC was Tri-Valley followed by Eureka getting second place.
As this annual tournament came to a close, we interviewed three juniors Marissa Moore, Emily Rogers, and Riley Nave on their thoughts going into postseason games. When they were asked if they were happy with the Hornets placing in the tournament, their responses were very similar. Ultimately, all three of these volleyball players think the team could have placed much better, and gotten a couple more wins on the season but fell a little short a couple of times. The last question that was asked was how it prepared them for the postseason. Marissa responded, “I feel like it gave us some determination to play better if we do play those teams again in Regionals. We want to make a comeback for sure.” Emily and Riley went on to add, “We know that we have to work hard now to fight and compete in regionals. We are very focused on just beating Deland-Weldon and then moving on to play LeRoy and playing well together as a team.” Regular volleyball season ended two weeks ago, which means this week starts the regional championship. We wish the girls the best of luck at making a long run this postseason.
