Playoff Interview with HHS Senior Football Players

The first round of the playoffs is right around the corner, your Heyworth Hornets are going to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. While the whole town is getting hyped up, we decided to interview the senior football players about their football experience and how they feel about the upcoming playoff game on Saturday 10/28 @2pm Hornet Stadium.


Cooper Johnson

Position: Running Back

Cooper has been playing high school football for 4 years. Some things Cooper makes sure to do at practice to help him in games are to do lots of running drills. His pre-game routine is to listen to music, stretch out, and warm up. As a senior who has helped the football team get to the playoffs, Cooper's words are “ It feels pretty good to turn the program around.”


Tyler Wills

Position: Running Back/Linebacker

Tyler has been playing high school football for 4 years. Some things he does at practice is doing drills to game plan for the other team's plays. Tyler’s pre-game routine is to listen to music and not talk to anyone. As one of the seniors who has been on the football team for 4 years, Tyler says “It feels good because we have finally won some games.”


Devyn Porzelius

Position: Defensive End

Devyn has participated in Heyworth High School football for 3 years. Things that Devyn does in practice that help him for the game are hanging out with the team and getting hyped to music. Devyn also participates in a weekly tradition of eating at Prairie Fire Grill to make sure he is fueled up for the game. Devyn feels “really good about being a senior and going to the playoffs.”



Chris Gould

Position: Offensive Tackle

Chris has been a part of the football team all 4 years of high school. In practice, Chris says that in practice he focuses on breathing, technique, and the small details to help him do well in games. Before games, Chris says two prayers, one short one and one really long one. Chris feels “really good, after three years and three losing seasons, having one that breaks through feels amazing.”


Gage Gebur

Position: Offensive Tackle/Nose Guard

Gage has been Playing Heyworth High School football for 4 years. Gage says how the football team practices hard during practice and tries to work on their technique. During the pre-game prep, he tries to get in the zone and does lots of stretching to get ready for the game. He feels that his fellow seniors are good and they have become a lot better from last year.
