NYE Traditions Around the World

During Christmas and New Year's people have a lot of different traditions they do. New Year’s specifically has traditions that many people throughout the world do. Many places do these traditions to promote good luck for the new year. Below is a list of New Year's Eve traditions celebrated throughout the world, maybe you can try out some different traditions this year and see if they bring you good luck for the New Year. 


Some popular traditions in the U.S. are, watching the ball drop in New York, making New Year's resolutions, kissing a loved one on the second the clock strikes one, toasting with a sparkling drink, watching fireworks, and many more things. 


Some traditions in Spain are eating one grape for the last 12 seconds until midnight, this is supposed to bring good luck into the new year, they also dance and celebrate until the early hours of the morning. 


In Brazil, they wear white on New Year's Eve to bring good luck and peace, they also go to the beach and jump over seven waves, for each wave they jump they make one wish for the new year. 


In Greece, some families hang onions above their doors to bring good vibes into their houses for the new year. In the morning the parents wake their kids up by bonking them on the head with the onions. They also make cakes or sweet breads with a coin baked into it and the first person to find it will have good luck. 


In Japan they believe that starting with a clean slate for the new year will bring good luck, they clean every inch of their house including places they haven't cleaned in a long time. They also eat a specific meal on New Year's Eve that consists of noodles and soup with various toppings including green onions.
