Erika’s Lighthouse, a non-profit organization, works to raise awareness about adolescent depression, encouraging good mental health, and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health issues. This organization was founded in 2004 after Ginny and Tom Neuckranz lost their daughter to teenage depression. They turned their suffering into hope for other families and dedicated their lives to making sure no young person feels alone in their depression.

On their foundation's website, they went on to state that “Teenage depression thrives in isolation. It feeds on silence. It lives in the darkness. That’s why we’re dedicated to light, to conversation, and to community.”

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Heyworth High School Key Club is working to spread awareness and raise money for this powerful organization. They held a bake sale during lunch on 9/20, selling a variety of items including cookie bars, M&M cookies, and brownies. Kate Pickett, president of the Key Club, felt that the bake sale was a success and is looking forward to leading the Key Club in their projects this year. They plan to continue holding blood drives, making and donating blankets, picking up the highway, taking out recycling in the school, and overall helping the community this semester.

Stay tuned for Key Club updates in the future!
