Homecoming Week Review

Updated: Oct 3, 2023

This year's Homecoming Week will be centered around the theme of Heyworth in Wonderland, a spin-off of Alice in Wonderland.

To fit with the theme, the student council has created dress-up days all week long. Monday was Pajama Day, as it was all a dream for Alice in Wonderland, Tuesday was Mad Hatter Day, where students wore hats and had crazy hair, Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday, bringing out the bright and trippy clothes, Thursday was Tweedledee and Tweedledum Twin Day, where students dress up as twins or triplets, and Friday is Class Color Day, with seniors wearing black, juniors wearing red, sophomores wearing white, and freshmen wearing grey.

When asked what inspired the themed days for HOCO week, senior Maura McMillan stated, “For the spirit week themes we mainly just talked about it in a group then we had four sophomores and a few seniors throwing out ideas for the themed days. Overall we (the student council) worked together to create a final decision for the themes throughout HOCO week.”

Besides the Spirit Week Dress Up Days, this week is full of activities to show off that Hornet Pride.

Tuesday evening (9/26) the volleyball team takes on Ridgeview in their Homecoming game starting at 5:30. Another Heyworth tradition is the parade, bonfire, and coronation that takes place on Wednesday (9/27) beginning at 6:30. Our students gather on school property, following the parade, to burn a stuffed mascot of the football team's homecoming opponent. After that, the coronation takes place on the football field where this year's homecoming king and queen will be crowned. Friday night (9/29) the community gathers at Hornet Stadium to support our football boys to a victory, which would give them their fifth win and a spot in the playoffs. Saturday (9/30) the homecoming dance will begin at 7pm with the theme “Heyworth in Wonderland.”
