Haunted Trail Raises a Scary Amount of Money for HHS Sports

Abby Klaus

On October 21, 2023, the Heyworth Volleyball and Wrestling teams hosted a haunted trail at the local honey farm, Wild Harvest Honey, in Heyworth. The money raised for both the volleyball and wrestling teams totaled $2855.43 overall. The money was divided evenly to both teams for all their hard work. The money will help both teams with purchasing uniforms and equipment for the next season. The Haunted Trail consisted of people handing out candy, players dressing up, and parents doing the concessions.

The community came out and supported these teams, resulting in an awesome turnout! We interviewed the owners of the Wild Harvest Honey Farm (Amber Rutledge and Ashley Scrivner) and they said that the overall turn-out was really good. Specifically, they said "It was nice to see the community come together and support the volleyball and wrestling team, and making memories. We were brainstorming ways to give back to the community and kids. The more community support that we receive as a store, the more we can give back.”

Then they went on to say that, “(They) want to be able to continue to put on fun fundraisers where everybody has fun and it is not just knocking on doors for money. These fundraisers take a lot of work and without volunteers, there's no way that these fundraisers could take place. We loved seeing the kids get involved and having fun."
