This week we are lucky enough to have Friday off and next week Monday off. This means a four-day weekend. The reason we have Friday off is because it is a teacher's institute day. This means the teachers still have to be at school all day being in meetings. We have Monday off because it is Presidents Day, which is a day used to celebrate the lives of and the very important things that presidents do for the country. The reason it is celebrated on February 19th is because this is also President George Washington’s birthday.
With that being said there are lots of things to do involving Heyworth sports and activities this weekend if you get bored. On Friday, the high school boys basketball team has a home game against Ridgeview, JV starting at 5:30, and varsity starting at 7:00. This is also their Senior night. (Mr. Kirkton offers extra credit if you go to this game, take a picture, and then show him on Tuesday). There is also the first indoor girl's track meet of the season at Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday Morning. Finally, the high school speech team also had two people, Jacob Hartwig (11) and Robin Stevens (12), qualify for state finals at the Peoria Civic Center.
