Former Wrestlers Return to Reinvigorate Wrestling Program

Jack Rutledge

The Heyworth wrestling team has finally made a return, and the coaches are very familiar. Andrew Sims, Jared Lauterberg, and Levi Neuleib. These athletes made a big name for Heyworth wrestling just a few years ago with Sims making it to the state tournament several times in his Heyworth career, with multiple Lauterbergs battling to control the heavyweight position on the team, and culminated in 2019, with Neuleib winning state.

These 3 wrestlers came back to help bring Heyworth back to its former wrestling glory. The new coaches were also taught by Olympia Coach Josh Collins. Collins had been helping coach the Heyworth co-op team.  But now due to having enough new high school wrestlers, Heyworth has been able to bring back the sport. It's very cool to see that the new coaches and old Olympia coaches are all connected in some way to help bring back the wrestling team.

Coach Neuleib wrestled 113 his Jr year in 2019 and placed first in state. In 2020 he wrestled 120 and placed 5th in state. Coach Simms wrestled 132 in 2018, and 138 in 2019. Sims was Heyworth's first state qualifier and went on to wrestle in college after graduation. These coaches are determined to push this team to hopefully be one of the best 1A wrestling teams in the state and we’re excited to see how their coaching will impact wrestlers.
