Finals Week Preview

Carsyn Langellier

As the semester draws to a close, students at Heyworth High School find themselves preparing for what is known as a stressful time in the school year - finals week. This week is the culmination of the first semester. It is a time when students aim to finish the semester strong, demonstrating both their hard work and dedication and the skills they have acquired since August.

In preparation for this stressful week, we reached out to juniors and seniors who have experienced finals before. From their experiences, we gathered a variety of advice on effective study techniques, time management strategies, and the importance of taking breaks during this period. Listed below is advice from the interviewees. By highlighting these key things students can do to be successful, we aim to equip students with the tools they need to survive finals week.

  • Time management - prioritize tasks based on deadlines and the amount of preparation needed to complete them. Additionally, quality study time is more beneficial than quantity.

  • Find a comfortable environment - the environment where you study can impact your productivity. Try to find a comfortable place where you can eliminate distractions and concentrate.

  • Use your resources - Make time to study with your friends and classmates. And don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers, they want you to feel prepared said Mr. Kirkton. He goes on to say that finals are designed to measure student learning and allow teachers to reflect on their own teaching processes

  • Take breaks - It is easy to get overwhelmed when studying, so incorporate short breaks into your study sessions to recharge your mind. This can also increase your productivity. During breaks, you can walk, rest, or grab a snack.

As finals week approaches, remember that each challenge is an opportunity for growth. You can successfully navigate this challenging week by adopting better time management habits, finding a comfortable environment to study in, using your resources, and giving your mind a break. The end of finals week not only marks the end of the semester but also the start of a well-deserved break. Good luck hornets!
