This week we are focusing on an amazing student who is very active in the FFA and recently got her state degree just last week. She has been working very hard to get to this point and it was a difficult path but she made it! This student is Camren Hanks (senior).
What does it take to get your state degree?
The State FFA Degree is awarded to students who have completed the minimum requirements set by the National FFA organization. That includes but is not limited to receiving the Chapter FFA Degree, completing the equivalent of at least two years (360 hours) in agricultural education at or above the ninth-grade level, working at least 750 hours over scheduled class time in a supervised agricultural experience program, rank in the upper 40% of the class in scholarship or have an average of a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and participated in at least 25 hours of community service. You also have to be interviewed and referred for it. So it is not an easy thing to do and takes months if not years to get.
When talking with Camren, she said that getting the state degree was her biggest accomplishment in FFA. She went on to say how she put in hundreds of hours of work to achieve this. However, the hard work was not the only memorable thing about this journey to her state degree. She said that some of her favorite memories from high school come from FFA, including attending the National Convention with Mercedes and working with the rest of the officer team.
