As you may know, the Heyworth High School Cross Country regular season essentially wrapped up on Saturday with their final home meet. The team is now working towards their postseason, which starts with their Conference Meet on Oct 14 at Lower Lake Park then the Regionals Meet on Oct 21 at Porta High School, and then hopefully onto Sectionals and State. However, you need 7 runners to run as a team in these postseason races and the girl's team only has 5 runners so they will all be looking to place individually.
All runners have enjoyed their season but none more than the 5 seniors. This year the 5 seniors are Aven Jonhson, Alex Dahlhauser, Nathaniel Roehrig, Kyler Williams, and Abby Bloemer and they have all run all four years of high school. They all had a variety of favorite memories such as Kyler and Aven who both said the bus ride back from our course walk at Tuscola. Abby said running with the girls' team and the Weldon Spring runs were a lot of fun. Nathaniel said that he always likes going out to eat after meets and finally, Alex said that his favorite memories included workouts and sunrises during practices.
Throughout their careers, they all had ups and downs with courses and times. Aven’s 3-mile personal record was 17:23 and his favorite course was Eureka and his least favorite course was Oakwood. Alex led the team this year with a 3-mile personal record of 17:03 his favorite course is his home course at Centennial Park and his favorite course was also Oakwood. Nathaniel agreed with Aven, his favorite was also Eureka and his least favorite course was Oakwood, his 3-mile personal record was 17:29. Kyler had different tastes in courses, his favorite was El Paso, his least favorite was Detwilier and his record is 19:02. The only senior on the girl's team, Abby said that her favorite course was Detweiler and her least favorite was Dunlap. While most liked to do all types of training to stay in shape during the summer and winter Kyler did not and he said “Some crazy wacky things occurred involving food and I’m slow as ever.” The other Seniors all enjoyed training during the off-season to get their times down and their endurance up. Nathaniel and Aven both hope to continue running cross country at the college level when they graduate. Abby said she would run for fun but she doesn't plan to keep running with a team after high school. Alex said that he would run track in college, but he didn’t plan on running cross country after high school. Kyler said that he doesn't plan to keep running after high school. As you can see the HHS country seniors are looking to go out on top at the conference and regionals, so come and support them in what will be some of their final meets.
