As another school year approaches, students are faced with the dreaded course selection that will shape the rest of their high school journey. The choices that the students make during this process can impact their academic success, growth, future, and career. The incoming freshman (8th graders), freshman, sophomores, and juniors will be choosing their classes throughout the next few weeks, in their English classes with Ms. Stanton. Freshmen and Sophomores will be provided with AP classes that they can take to help with college credits. Also, Junior and Seniors will be offered Dual Credit classes through Heartland that can also help with college credits. These students will also not have class on Fridays, which means they will need a permission slip signed by parents to be able to leave campus.
There are many ways to go about the course selection process but here are a few that will help you now and even in your future. Take some time to reflect and think about your academic goals and challenges. Take subjects that you think you will be interested in, and take some subjects that will challenge you to work/think but won't make you drown. This also goes with balance, as in not taking all the hardest courses setting yourself up for tons of work and stress that can lead to not your greatest work. Take some courses that are challenging and some that are fun elective classes.
