Cheer Competition Preview

Madi Shepherd

Starting off the winter basketball cheer season, the team is very excited for the 2023-2024 Cheer Competitions! The team has expressed how the routine looks good so far, and how they are ready to be able to show people. They are also very happy because they have been working really hard for it and think they have a good team this year. We interviewed (senior) Ryleigh Mealey about how she feels about this being her last season of cheer and last competitions and any advice she would give to freshmen of future cheer seasons. Ryleigh then stated, “I’m a little sad to be leaving everyone that I made such good friendships with. Spending every day with these girls makes you really close and it's so exciting to see how all of them grow individually! She then went on to say “My advice I would give to future cheerleaders is to keep your head up. It is not easy at first but the more work you put in, the better you will get”.

Lastly, we interviewed (freshman) Ryleigh Johnson and Kaylee Turvey, on how they are feeling for their first high school cheer season and competitions. We also asked how the team and them are preparing for their first competition this season. The girls then said, “I feel like it's kind of stressful and figuring everything that were doing and how it works. Like stunts and dances is really complicated, but the social aspect of it is really fun.” Then to the second question, she replied, “We are working with Mr. Kirkton with stunts and trying to figure out the pyramid. A couple of the girls learned parts of the dance, but other than that, we haven’t worked on anything super challenging. I’m just ready to keep moving forward and getting a really good routine down.”
