7 Tips for High School Freshmen

Calileia Anderson

Entering high school can be a scary experience, especially when we have expectations of what it could be like. In high school, you will experience both academic and social challenges. Here are some expert tips from graduation seniors this year!

Take AP/Dual Credit Classes

Taking AP classes can help you prepare for the upcoming college path. Taking AP classes can also allow you to be placed into a higher class and possibly not take as many classes in college.

Pick Classes You Are Interested In

Picking classes you are interested in can help you stay motivated and interested while learning. There may be a few classes you will have to take that aren’t fun but are mandatory. But If you take classes you like it will make the high school experience more fun and easy.

Be Organized

Being organized will help you be less stressed. It will also help you stay on top of assignments and not fall behind in classes.

Build Healthy Relationships

While in high school try to surround yourself in healthy relationships. Being in a toxic relationship or friend group can negatively affect your academic abilities. Having these extra worries and anxiety can cause you to be depressed and unmotivated to do anything else but rot in bed.

Prioritize your mental health

Prioritizing your mental health because you need it for success and well-being.

Be prepared for junior year

Junior year is one of the hardest years, this is partly because you are now looking for colleges to apply to and what your future is going to look like. Not only that but this is when people tend to take the most classes so their senior year is easy. People also tend to get jobs in their junior year. People's schedules are always busy and full of activities, which makes it hard to get homework done and keeps you behind. Having all these activities can make you overwhelmed and unmotivated to do anything.

Be involved in sports and academic activities

The high school offers many sports and academic activities. Personally, some of my favorite high school memories are from track and field. Being involved can also bring some of the best friendships. There's a wide variety of people in clubs and sports. Also traveling to different schools brings new people. Being in academic activities can give you scholarships and it looks good on resumes and college applications.
