24-25 Cheer Season Preview

Grace Braden

The High School and Junior High cheer teams have a new coach this season. Megan Klawitter (head coach, her daughter Maddie Klawitter (assistant coach), and Lauren Monk (assistant coach) are the new coaches hoping to improve both cheer teams this year. Some things they have already done are, getting cheer mats to practice on, and setting up lots of fundraising opportunities. They have Camp Jeff set up for this summer, which is a camp where experienced college cheerleaders come to help with their stunts, dances, and motions in cheers. They are going to be practicing two days a week this summer to get ready for football, and basketball/competition season.

Football season is the first season of the year. The cheer team does two dances for homecoming, the infamous “guy/girl” dance, and a “girl” dance. They start working on these over the summer so they can have them perfected. For basketball season they are doing up to four competitions this year. They are in Pontiac, Farmington, Normal West, and Knoxville. They will start working on their competition routine early so they can have it learned and perfected before they perform, they hope to place higher this year than they did in past years.

There are lots of people that have signed up for cheer this year. This will provide the opportunity for them to do more involving stunts and dances. The seniors on the team are Grace Braden, Alayna Graves, Ava Rivera, Kassidy Hedrick, Emily Rogers, and Marissa Moore.
