This past Saturday our Heyworth Wrestling Team had a shot to make it to sectionals in the state. There were multiple competitive teams at regionals which means our journey to make it makes it a lot more difficult. These are some hungry teams ready to bring their A-game and advance. The regionals took place at Tolono Unity, there were a few standouts including Sophomore Trevor Soice who qualified for sectionals and will wrestle this Friday and Saturday at Olympia High School. Along with Trevor, Freshman Logan Stout will be an alternate for sectionals as he placed 4th at regionals after wrestling a tough 3rd place match. This season Trevor held a record of 16-13 and wrestled at the 144 weight class all season. He has shown success and perseverance throughout the whole year as he has been wrestling with a broken thumb since the 2024 Urbana Wrestling Invitational that took place on January 13th. We had the chance to speak to Trevor about his upcoming matches this weekend and how he will prepare for sectionals. He said that he would push harder in the mat room to better prepare himself and get into proper conditioning. Trevor plans to see tougher opponents at sectionals so he will make sure he works harder as he plans to move onto state. Also, he says Brazillian Funk music helps hype him up before each of his matches. Trevor says the keys to success this season would be his hard work, dedication, and lifting in the weight room.
We wish the best of luck to Trevor representing our school and working towards being a better wrestler. Advancing to State would be a big step for this program as it works towards becoming a dominant Wrestling Program like once before in recent memory. The Wrestlers from that 4th place as a team in the State along with individual State places came back to Heyworth to coach and hopefully restore the once-great wrestling team the state has seen.
