WNBA Draft Recap and Hype

The WNBA draft was on Monday, April 15th. So many talented individuals were selected by these WNBA teams. Today we will recap the first 10 picks of the WNBA draft. 


The first overall pick was to no surprise, Kaitlin Clark. Kaitlin Clark who previously played for the Iowa Hawkeyes and became a legend in the basketball world for being the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer across men's and women's basketball. She was drafted to play for Indiana Fever. 





The second pick for the WNBA draft was Cameron Brink. She played for the women’s Stanford Cardinal basketball team. She was ranked no. 3 in the country for women’s college basketball. Brink was drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks.





The third pick of the WNBA draft was Kamilla Cardoso. Kamilla played for South Carolina where she helped lead the Gamecocks to a NCAA championship title. 6’7 Kamilla was drafted to play for Chicago Sky. 




The fourth player to be drafted was Rickea Jackson. Rickea was formally a Lady Vol at the University of Tennessee. Some of her known accomplishments include scoring 2,261 points over 127 college games. She was drafted to play for the Los Angeles Sparks alongside Cameron Brink.





The 5th pick for the WNBA draft was Jacy Sheldon. Jacy who tied the school record with 11 Steals in a single game at Ohio State was drafted to play for the Dallas Wings. 





Aaliyah Edwards was the 6th pick of the WNBA draft this year. Edwards played for the UConn Huskies and helped take her team to the final four. She ranks 15th in program history with 1,861 career points. The Washington Mystics selected her to play for them this upcoming year. 





The 7th picked player was Angel Reese. Angel played for the LSU Tigers where she was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four in the 2022-23 season. She was selected to play for Chicago Sky just like Kamilla Cardoso. 




Alissa Pili was the 8th pick of the draft this year. Pili played for the Utah Utes this past year. One of her several accomplishments was being awarded with the WBCA Coaches' All-American award in 2023. She was drafted to play for the Minnesota Lynx. 





The 9th pick for the WNBA draft was Carla Leite. Coming all the way from France, she was drafted to play for the Dallas Wings. She is known for being named the league's best young player in the 2022-23 season. 




The 10th pick and the last person I will discuss today was Leila Lacan. She is also from France and was drafted to play for Connecticut Sun.
