Baseball season is almost here and there is some exciting news this year. The baseball team this year has already started to do agility drills with Coach Turner this winter. This season also brings us a new coach. You might know him from football for his coaching on the football team. Coach Garard has decided to help out and coach our baseball team for the upcoming 2024 season.
There are high hopes for this upcoming season as people are expecting a great season out of both the Coaches and players. They also have high expectations for themselves as they plan to improve off of last season's historical regional championship-winning season. Last year in the 2023 season the Heyworth baseball team did exceptional and exceeded all expectations as they went all the way to sectionals after winning the regional championship for the first time in school history. Coach Andrew Turner has had a very short but significant tenure here at Heyworth High School and is continuing to make an impact on not only Heyworth baseball but the Heyworth Community and all of Heyworth's athletes. Coach Turner has been able to have a few very successful seasons at Heyworth due to the high expectations he holds for his players both on and off the field. He encourages his athletes to lift routinely in the offseason to make themselves bigger, faster, and stronger and that has shown to work as their past season reflects it.
Heyworth will be without the 2023 senior class this next year which included, Jacob Schoemaker, Chase Walters, and Landon Nettleton. The team will be looking for new upperclassmen to step into those leadership roles this 2024 season. The baseball team will also be holding a Spaghetti Dinner night on February 2nd where each player has to sell 10 tickets, meaning there is a limited amount of tickets available. If you are interested in buying tickets talk to the players before it is too late.
