On Monday the softball season kicked off. The softball team started strong being up 1-0 in the second inning but ultimately came up short in the end losing 14-1. Morgan Kessler started on the mound giving up 7 hits and striking out 4. Then Natalie Kopp came out in the middle of the 4th inning and closed the game giving up 6 hits. Offensively we had some promising innings but were unable to overcome the opposing team’s solid defense and pitching. Morgan Kessler led the team with 2 hits and Gabby Dow and Macie Toepke followed with 1 hit each.

The team was eager to get back on the field after a disappointing home opener. Last night, the softball team took on the Develan Purple Panthers at home. The results for this game can be found at https://www.maxpreps.com/il/heyworth/heyworth-hornets/softball/

The softball team will continue playing and improving over the next few days, concluding their first week of games with 5 games under their belts. On Wednesday, the team will travel to Central A&M to play the Raiders. Then on Thursday, they will face Maroa at home, and finally, they will travel down the road to Clinton on Saturday to face the Maroons. All games this week begin at 4:30, with the exception of Saturday's game which begins at 11:00.

Next week, the team will play 1 game, on Wednesday at Argenta, leaving plenty of time to practice and rest in preparation for the week after Spring Break. When we return to school, the softball team will begin conference play and face the Eureka Hornets at home on 4/1.
