MLB Power Rankings

2024 MLB Power Rankings

It’s the middle of spring training which means people are making their power rankings. There are some shockers, there are some sleepers, and there are some obvious ones. The reason why people have power rankings is because they want people to see where they rank their teams from the bottom to the top. Some people are usually biased against this and some people can be wrong. You never know what will happen in the sport of baseball so we are going to rank the Worst MLB Teams to the Best MLB Teams.

30. Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics last year had the worst record in baseball and by far the worst attendance record last year as well. During the middle of the season last year, the A’s agreed to relocate to Las Vegas which makes the second time in the 2020s that an Oakland sports team has moved to Las Vegas (First is the Raiders). Last year they had a few promising rising stars such as Estuary Ruiz who led the league in Stolen Bases last year and also Zack Gelof improving. Not to mention this year in free agency acquiring Ross Stripling, and Alex Wood from the Giants, and also signing Trevor Gott but it won’t be enough to help this poor team being last place in the division and maybe in all of baseball.

29. Colorado Rockies

Ever since losing their franchise cornerstones such as Dj LeMahieu, Trevor Story, and Nolan Arenado the Rockies have been on a downfall. The Rockies are in a rebuilding phase. But the rebuilding years could maybe not last a little bit longer as some of the top prospects from the Rockies farm system are making it up to the MLB such as Ezequiel Tovar and Drew Romo just to name a few. Nolan Jones, a former top prospect from the Guardians system had a breakout season last year batting .297 with 20 HR and 62 RBIs. They have also added some pitching this year in FA but the ERA is so high for a pitcher in Colorado mainly because of the altitude which means the pitching help is not going to mean much for them at all.

28. Chicago White Sox

Just a few years ago the White Sox conquered the AL Central which was a close race but after a disappointing 2022 and an even more disappointing 2023 season now has the White Sox rebuilding for the future. Luis Robert Jr. is the only promising star out of the whole Sox organization and it’s not about one person it’s about the whole team. With the signings of Paul Dejong and John Brebbia, it is clear that the White Sox are not going to be competing in the A.L. Central for the next couple of seasons. They are just going to trade people away to acquire top prospects from other team’s minor-league systems.

27. Detroit Tigers

One of the longest playoff droughts right now tied with the Angels the Tigers have not been able to make any impacts that can help their team get back into their early 2010 form. With young prospects such as Tarik Skubal, Jackson Jobe, Spencer Torkelson, Casey Mize, and Kerry Carpenter they have built themselves for the future and continued to acquire their most needed help with pitching by signing Kenta Maeda and Jack Flaherty to help with their rotation. But will the rotation live up to what it used to be when Detroit had both Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander or will it fall apart?

26. Washington Nationals

With Juan Soto gone who was supposed to be the face of the franchise for many years to come, they have switched gears. They have focused on young guys such as CJ Abrams to help Washington get back into playoff form. But what they are doing right now is not going to help for now. No significant signings by Washington instead are sticking to the core they have right now. Robert Hassell and James Wood soon will be making their debut as a National but they need to focus on their development first before they can reach that goal.

25. Kansas City Royals

The Royals have caught a few eyes from people. Including the massive extension of Bobby Witt Jr. and the addition of multiple veterans, this is a team that could be sneaky this year. But will their pitching live up to the standards because there are no young guys in the rotation that can be a building block. Also, their lineup is horrible besides Bobby Witt. They need to acquire more young hitters that can develop quickly and build around their franchise players.

24. Pittsburgh Pirates

During the beginning of last season, the Pirates were a team that caught a lot of attention as they were the first-place team in NL Central for a while. But severe injuries such as Oneil Cruz hurt their chances of keeping that spot. Also, the Pirates players later into the season started to regress quickly and dropped from number 1 to number 4 in the Central division standings. But Pittsburgh has done a good job by acquiring veterans that can turn it around such as Aroldis Chapman and Rowdy Tellez who can hit at least 20 HRs this season if he is healthy. They need to mentor the young guys quickly because the NL Central was busy this offseason.

23. Cincinnati Reds

The Reds were another team that surprised people last year. Mostly because of Elly De La Cruz’s breakout season that he had. With Cincinnati they had a lot of guys such as Spencer Steer, and Matt McLain all had very good seasons last year as well. But this may be the first year without Joey Votto, one of the best Reds players of all time in the clubhouse. The Cincinnati Reds are looking to shock a few people this year like they did last year.

22. Boston Red Sox

With the departures of some Red Sox greats over the last couple of years such as Xander Bogaerts, JD Martinez, and now Chris Sale. Boston is starting all over and has done quite a bit to improve the team, trading for outfielder Tyler O’Neill and infielder Vaughn Grissom. Will these guys be the building blocks for the near future at Fenway or will this team suffer the consequences at the bottom of the division?

21. Los Angeles Angels

The Angels have not been to the playoffs since 2014. They had stars like Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout to help carry this team back to glory but that’s the problem. Nobody has stepped up and helped these two build talent around them and now that Ohtani is gone it is now up to Trout to help carry the load and that won’t be enough to get back to the playoffs.

20. Milwaukee Brewers

From NL Central Division champs to now falling out of playoff contention the Milwaukee Brewers have been disappointing to watch this offseason. Corbin Burnes was traded to Baltimore, Brandon Woodruff is out the entire 2024 season, and Craig Counsell turned to the Cubs. Milwaukee has not been doing anything to help solve these problems. Instead, they are trading valuable pieces away for prospects. This is a team that maybe should be looking to rebuild for the future.

19. Cleveland Guardians

Cleveland has been a very quiet team in the free agency market. The Guardians though had a year with something to be excited about as they managed to get the Number 1 pick in MLB Draft. Already being one of the youngest teams in the MLB the Guardians are a team that can bounce back and become a potential wild card team. Jose Ramirez and Andres Gimenez leading a young offense. While on the pitching side, injuries have been costly last year with Shane Bieber and Tristen McKenzie missing some time. This is a sneaky team that can make a push for the playoffs, especially being in one of the worst divisions in the league.

18. St Louis Cardinals

The Redbirds last year were a disappointing team last year finishing with a record of 71-91 and last in the NL Central. The reason behind this is the pitching staff being one of the worst in the league last year. In this free agency, St. Louis isn’t messing around with the signings of starting pitching such as Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson who could give the team a lot of innings to work with. The Cardinals offseason was mostly attended to by the signing of AL Cy Young runner-up Sonny Gray. They also made bullpen acquisitions with Andrew Kittredge coming over. With a potent offense and a great year from the pitching staff, this team could be in the playoff hunt.

17. Chicago Cubs

With the start of free agency, the Cubs didn’t make one signing. They mostly focused on getting a new manager from the Brewers in Craig Counsell. But coming down to the end of free agency the Cubs signed Shota Imanaga and Hector Neris and recently re-signed Cody Bellinger. They also made a trade for top prospect Micheal Busch from the Dodgers. Breakout players like Christopher Morel and Justin Steele last year could play a huge role coming into this season. They also have some young stars ready for the show, like Pete Crow Armstrong. In the NL Central, any team could win and Chicago could be in a tight race for it and could take it.

16. Miami Marlins

Last year the Miami Marlins hired Skip Schumaker as their new manager after being the bench coach for the Padres and the Cardinals the last few years. Skip proved to the people how he turned the Marlins around into a wild-card team. Although with multiple injuries to stars such as Jazz Chisholm and Sandy Alcantara Miami could have been a team at the bottom. But with breakout stars such as Luis Arraez who they acquired from the Twins for Pablo Lopez, and Eury Perez bringing the heat from the mound as one of bright stars for the MLB future. This Marlins team is sneaky.

15. San Diego Padres

After a NLCS appearance in 2022, San Diego was a team to fear. They were even more of a team to fear with Fernando Tatis Jr. coming back from suspension and signing Xander Bogaerts to a massive deal this team could have made it to the World Series last year. But last year they were worse with the third-best record in the NL West. But the Padres have done damage this year with the signings of Yuki Matsui and Go Woo-suk. Even though they traded Juan Soto away they got great players in return such as Michael King and Kyle Higashioka. This Padres team could be a force this year.

14. Seattle Mariners

In 2023 the Seattle Mariners had a bit of Downfall due to multiple injuries. There were a few departures such as Tesocar Hernandez (Dodgers), and Robbie Ray (Giants). And there have been a few additions that could play a key role in the resurgence of the 2024 season. Such as acquiring Jorge Polanco from the Twins and signing some solid pitchers too. But with Luis Castillo carrying the young pitching staff and Julio Rodriguez leading a very young offense that can thrive. This team is sneaky and very good and hungry for a playoff spot.

13. Minnesota Twins

The reigning AL Central Champions have a lot of expectations coming into this season. Their pitching had regressed this offseason a little bit with their Ace Sonny Gray leaving to head to the Cardinals. Also trading infielder Jorge Polanco to the Mariners. But they already have a great pitching staff with Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez, and Bailey Ober. With a bullpen of Jhoan Duran and Caleb Thielbar. And a Twins offense that now consists of a healthy Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa. This Twins team could go on a huge run and win the division again.

12. San Francisco Giants

San Francisco has been on a huge downfall after 2021 when they won the NL West over the Dodgers. They have relied on the farm system to help them do work on the pitching side and the offense side too. They have bulked up this free agency by signing Jung-Ho Lee and Jordan Hicks and also signed Matt Chapman. Also traded for Robbie Ray. This Giants team can turn around quickly and become a great squad but will it be enough for the NL West crown because the division is one of the toughest in baseball?

11. Baltimore Orioles

After suffering a first-round exit to the Texas Rangers, Baltimore is looking to bounce back and seek revenge and make the playoffs once again. From going 52-110 to 101-61 in just three seasons the Orioles have started to catch the eyes of the baseball fans. Even though barely any free agents were signed by them they don’t need anybody. Young stars like Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Grayson Rodriguez are all poised to become superstars in the future. Not to mention Jordan Westburg and Heston Kjerstad are also on the upcoming to the Majors. Baltimore also acquired Corbin Burnes from the Brewers to bolster their pitching by a lot. This team is hungry to take over the AL East once again.

10. Arizona Diamondbacks

After making a huge playoff run last year that ended them up in the World Series, Arizona is now in contention. Last year during the first half of the MLB season they were 1st place in the NL West and then fell apart and ended up 2nd and in the wildcard. Arizona has had promising young stars like Baltimore such as Corbin Carroll, Alek Thomas, Gabriel Moreno, and also a breakout season of Zac Gallen. Also, their top prospects in the farm system like Druw Jones, and Jordan Lawler are on the rise and could by the end of the year find a spot in the lineup. The pitching has improved with the addition of Eduardo Rodriguez which means Arizona is looking like a force to be reckoned with in the NL West.

9. Philadelphia Phillies

Over the past couple of years, the Philadelphia Phillies have brought in star power to help bolster their roster and be the Dynasty they used to be in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s. Last year after making the World Series the Phillies brought in Trea Turner and Craig Kimbrel, and also they acquired Gregory Soto from the Tigers. They have built themselves a roster to win. Philadelphia is looking to be a force in the NL East after re-signing Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler which are the main keys to the rotation. Philadelphia is a powerhouse to look out for.

8. New York Mets

Going from 101-61 to missing the playoffs the Mets fell off the playoff board when they were supposed to be a title contender. Last year they signed Justin Verlander to pair up with Max Scherzer for the second time in their careers (First with the Detroit Tigers). During the trade deadline, they shipped their new pitcher Verlander back to Houston and also sent Max Scherzer to Texas but sent him to the Rangers. The Mets have shown a lot of promise in free agency this year by signing as many free agents as possible. They signed Harrison Bader to pair up in the outfield. They've signed their power first baseman Peter Alonso along with Sean Manaea to bolster their pitching staff alongside Kodai Senga. Along with other free agents that can help make an impact. The New York Mets are a team that will have a bounce-back year and can help make a push.

7. New York Yankees

For the first time in a long time, the Bronx Bombers missed the playoffs due to multiple injuries and underperformances from the team. Although last year’s performance had Gerrit Cole winning the AL Cy Young award. Aaron Judge, a long-time Yankee and one of the best in the game sat out most of the year with a foot injury. But this year they acquired one of the future stars in the game Juan Soto. They also have kept Giancarlo Stanton who I believe will have a bounce-back year this year. This year the Bombers are going to be dangerous with Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Giancarlo Stanton so pitchers you better watch out.

6. Toronto Blue Jays

After losing back-to-back Wild Card games the Blue Jays have been very busy in the offseason making multiple moves to help stay in the race for the AL East crown. Toronto has had many departures such as Matt Chapman and Whit Merrifield. But also acquired Isiah Kiner Falefa and Cuban pitcher Yariel Rodriguez. Young guys such as Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio are poised to become all-stars this year. Toronto is ready to compete for that AL East crown which has been the most competitive forever.

5. Tampa Bay Rays

With Tampa making the playoffs for the 4th straight year the Rays are ready to make the World Series once again. During the season Tampa had lost their franchise SS Wander Franco due to trouble allegations. With the breakout year of Randy Arozarena and other Rays young prospects who could be with them for a long time. The starting pitching even though they lost Tyler Glasnow, the Rays prospect Taj Bradley could be on the Horizon and could be in the starting rotation soon. Tampa is hungry and is ready for the World Series run.

4. Houston Astros

The Astros have been a force since making the playoffs 10 years ago. Jose Altuve is staying an Astro for life after extending his contract for another five years. Houston’s young stars are going to thrive once they get more playing time. The Astros bullpen has regressed a little bit but is still a playoff-caliber team and when they do make it. It may be a guaranteed ALCS appearance.

3. Texas Rangers

Last year Texas made the World Series and won their first in franchise history. Texas is keeping Marcus Semien and Corey Seager for another multiple years. Josh Jung, Jonah Heim, and Adolis Garcia had all-star seasons last year. They can have all-star seasons again, especially with how good they are. Texas’s pitching is very insane with DeGrom coming back from injury and Nathan Eovaldi breaking out. Texas may be running it back with how good they were last year and not losing that much to their team.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers

Back-to-back seasons with over 100 wins but first-round exits to NL West rivals. The Dodgers have splashed the cash with the signings of Japanese stars Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani. They also acquired Tyler Glasnow and also resigned Kike Hernandez. The Dodgers have stars everywhere and are one of the teams to look out for in the regular season and the playoffs.

1. Atlanta Braves

With back-to-back seasons with over 100 wins and a first-round exit to the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta has been waiting for another World Series Title and it’s looking to be a team to make the World Series. Matt Olson and Ronald Acuna Jr help carry an offense that is the best in the league. Also including Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies, and Michael Harris II. The pitching rotation is one of the best in the league with Spencer Strider, Max Fried, and newly acquired Chris Sale. Along with Charlie Morton and young Kyle Wright, the Braves have all the pieces to the puzzle for a championship squad. Their bullpen is ready and hungry to help close out the games for them. This year Atlanta is not messing around and will be the best team in the league.
